Paul’s training in Geology/Geochemistry at the University of Cape Town culminated in a Ph.D. on modeling and characterization of metamorphic, magmatic and ore-generating fluids in meta-sedimentary rocks of the Damara Belt in Namibia. Paul spent 23 years as a Specialist Mapping Geologist with the Council for Geoscience (CGS, Geological Survey of South Africa) managing large, multi-year, national and international, multi-disciplinary geoscience mapping and research programs in Madagascar, Morocco, Mozambique, South Africa and Namibia. As a Senior CGS Manager, he coordinated an integrated, multidisciplinary 10 year “Expanded Geoscience Mapping Program” for South Africa.

Paul focusses on unravelling the geological histories of complex Precambrian terranes through structural and lithologic mapping, geochronology, whole rock and isotope geochemistry and remote sensing. He has produced over 150 geological maps and accompanying sheet explanations, 45 journal articles and 68 conference papers, has mentored CGS staff members and has co-supervised research projects for 28 post-graduate students. Paul’s interests and experience culminated in a course on “Modern Geological Mapping Techniques”.

Paul was a member of SA Antarctic expeditions and a visiting Research Fellow at ANU and Edinburgh. Caitlin holds an M.Sc. in Structural Geology from the University of Stellenbosch. Her research for Barberton Mines (Pty) Ltd focused on the structural controls of hydrothermal fluid flow and gold mineralization within the Fairview and Sheba Mines of the Barberton Greenstone Belt, South Africa.

Her study involved lithological, structural and geochemical analyses of discrete underground fracture- and shear zone-style orebodies, hosted by various rock units, to determine the kinematics of structures and their context in the broader deformational history of the greenstone belt. The work progressed our understanding of high-grade gold deposits and their associated regional and local fluid flow pathways within the Sheba-Fairview mining complex.

Caitlin specializes in the characterization, interpretation, structural mapping and 3D geomodelling of structurally-complex orebodies and their host sequences in LeapfrogGeo and Micromine. She is a member of the Geological Society of South Africa, Society of Economic Geologists and the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions.
